NATURAL VEGETATION OF COASTAL PLAINS

(a) The forests are restricted to the rainy parts of the Western Coastal plains and the Island Group of India.

(b) The rainfall in this area is over 250cm with a short dry season.

(c) In these forests, trees reach great heights upto 60 metres or even above.

(d) Since the region is warm and wet throughout the year, it has a luxuriant vegetation of all kinds - trees, shrubs and creepers.

(e) There is no definite time to shed their leaves. As such these forests appear green all the year round.
